Elizabeth Sandifer created Eruditorum Press. She’s not really sure why she did that, and she apologizes for the inconvenience. She currently writes Last War in Albion, a history of the magical war between Alan Moore and Grant Morrison. She used to write TARDIS Eruditorum, a history of Britain told through the lens of a ropey sci-fi series. She also wrote Neoreaction a Basilisk, writes comics these days, and has ADHD so will probably just randomly write some other shit sooner or later. Support Elizabeth on Patreon.

Death seems to be a huge point this season

I like how barely a word was spoken about the lion man and his scheme, in favor of talking about Clara/ragging on Before The Flood. I’ve got to say, this episode is the one where I officially feel like they’re telegraphing Clara’s death too hard. I compared it to mafia goons making a subtle threat to the viewer: “Gee, sure is a nice companion you got there. It’d be an awful shame if anything were to happen to her.”.

So count me on board for Caitlin’s theory about Clara ascending beyond just “the companion who died” to something better and more influential in her death. Please, make it matter beyond something to make the Doctor (and us) really sad.

I would genuinely be impressed if they made Clara’s death make the audience sad! (I don’t hate her, I just… have no opinion of her, which is a bit worrying given how she’s one of the show’s longest running regulars now!)

I’m so certain she’ll be the hybrid by the end of this series, if they’re willing to do this much forshadowing .

“And tune in next week, when we’ve got a massive exciting guest.”

    Peter Harness? Oh, if only.

I’m hoping for Benedict Cumberbatch, to pick up on any anti-refugee readings of the episode.

My instant assumption is that the guest next week is both “exciting” and “massive”. One of the bloated former Doctors, perchance?

      (Sorry).

Can I just say, for the record, that I love emotions and character development? I just wish Clara had some, that’s all.
