Elizabeth Sandifer

Elizabeth Sandifer created Eruditorum Press. She’s not really sure why she did that, and she apologizes for the inconvenience. She currently writes Last War in Albion, a history of the magical war between Alan Moore and Grant Morrison. She used to write TARDIS Eruditorum, a history of Britain told through the lens of a ropey sci-fi series. She also wrote Neoreaction a Basilisk, writes comics these days, and has ADHD so will probably just randomly write some other shit sooner or later. Support Elizabeth on Patreon.

I so wish I could pay you more on Patreon to make the 350$ goal and the full Capaldi era Eruditorum happen. But I can’t, so fingers crossed for the rich people out there. (A sentence I never thought I’d write).

What about the Tardis Eurditorum books? When can we expect the Slyvester McCoy book?

(And a rough schedule for all the later books would be nice too)

The news you seek is in the post. Well, at least the McCoy bit of it. I don’t feel like I can commit to a future schedule, especially because I don’t know where things like Last War in Albion v2 or any number of side projects might come into the schedule.

Well, if you’re going to write about important stuff again, you can have some of my hard-earned capitalist dollars! Unless they go in taxes…

Looking forward to supporting the Kickstarter for TARDIS Eruditorum Volume 7. Any rough time line on publication of the remaining volumes ?

Thanks for plugging my new project 🙂 I’m happy you’re excited for it because I am over the moon with anticipation. It’s been driving me nuts having to sit on this all year, and I still have to wait until April! I hope all our readers will be excited too.

Since we’re doing updates, I thought I’d throw a few of my own. As I’ve been literally filling time this year between projects and have been preoccupied with YouTube, my posting here is still going to be pretty sporadic until April. This doesn’t mean I won’t keep my regular posting schedule until then, but I don’t have any immediate plans for a big longform blog project until I can start writing The Surprise Book in earnest.

Permanent Saturday will continue on a semiregular basis (basically whenever Garfield does something I feel is oversignified enough to warrant an essay, or I feel particularly inspired to go back through the archive). There’s still one, maybe two essays left in the Hyrule Haeresis series, and I’m hoping to get one of them out this month. If you want to know when, ask Nintendo when the next expansion pack for Breath of the Wild drops. Pro tip: Go and match up the post dates for Hyrule Haeresis essays with release dates of Legend of Zelda games and DLC.

Also! Vaka Rangi is not dead! Last time I talked about that I said I couldn’t find my way to an angle on the late-90s material. Since I wrote that over the summer I’ve now gotten to the point where I may finally have a workable structure for a hypothetical Volume 5 that would take us all the way through Enterprise, though it’s still going to be more complex and ambitious than anything I’ve done with Vaka Rangi before. I can’t say when I’ll start work on that book, and while it probably won’t be before I start The Surprise Book, it also won’t be “an indefinite period of time before the heat death of the universe” either.

Also, I’m hoping to get Volume 3 (covering seasons 2-5 of Star Trek: The Next Generation) out in book form sometime in Winter-Early Spring 2018 (most of the editing is done already anyway as it’s largely content that was cut from the book version of Volume 2. Still no Dirty Pair though, sorry) and Volume 4 (covering Star Trek: The Next Generation seasons 6 and 7 and Star Trek: Deep Space Nine seasons 1 and 2) out by Fall 2018. But don’t hold me to that.

And yes, I know there’s a new Star Trek show on the air. I know everyone expects me to say something about it. Let me just say outright that Star Trek Discovery doesn’t interest me, though I do feel obligated to make some sort of comment. It will definitely get acknowledged in the hypothetical Book 5, but I can’t promise to say anything more extensive about it before then.

As far as recent Star Trek stuff goes, frankly this has piqued my curiosity the most of anything: https://deadline.com/2017/12/quentin-tarantino-star-trek-movie-jj-abrams-1202220032/

Apart from that I’ve got the rest of December more or less sorted at least. But I’ll tell you, April cannot come soon enough.

I can’t wait to see what you will (eventually) make of what was, for me, one of the biggest surprises of the Moffat era: the fact that after setting up the Doctor’s search for Gallifrey in “The Day of the Doctor” as a new direction for the series… Moffat then brought the planet back just two seasons later. And he then promptly discarded it. In a way that’s typical of his love for narrative substitution, but it was still quite an interesting decision to make.
