Won't an independent Scotland end up being a neo-liberal capitalist playground, offering generous tax concessions and freedom from regulation to multi-national corporations?
I would suggest that offering a political reading of a widely-consumed piece of popular culture is contributing to society and spreading a preferred ideology through those means would even be a positive contribution, at least in its author's eyes.
Keep up the good work, Jack. Your blog is far from shit and is often eye-opening, and never less than interesting. I'll be following Xenomorph's Paradox closely, too, and realising how utterly simplistic my Marxist reading of Alien was, a few years ago in a university exam.
Don't know if that's of interest to you or not but it's there (don't know if you know about the website or not either - set up by some pissed off ex-SWPers who run a small press publishing hard left books...) I have the book in my possesion but haven't read it yet.
Anyway, keep up with the good work. I've really liked reading the Dr. Who commentary on here and hopefully I'll be able to comment more in future.

You mean 'will it be part of the world as it currently exists'? Yes, I expect so.

Hello
Link | ReplyFairly long term reader/ spectator here but a non-poster.I'm not on tumblr but I saw you post something re: chartism and lack of good books on thereof. There was, in fact, a book on this a few years back which you didn't mention: http://ammarxists.org/new-on-unkant-dave-black-chris-ford-1839-the-chartist-insurrection/
