Your Fire Emblem thoughts are… well, I guess you did say you are a newcomer haha.

“it focuses so much on the new features and the features it inherits from Super Metroid as opposed to those that were actually in the original Metroid II: The Return of Samus.”

A interesting complaint, considering many of Metroid 2’s features have either since then passed into other games. I mean, the three notable things it really did was the Metroid counter, Spider Ball & being a general improvement over NES Metroid.
I love the Spider Ball too, but I get why that probably isn’t as fancy to promote as opposed to the new things that weren’t in the original.

Find your issues with Metroid-Alien connection ah questionable personally.

With the exception of the outright awful Other M, I’ve enjoyed quite a bit of Sakamoto’s Metroid over the years. Not entirely surprising then, that I’m lookinbg forward to a possible return-to-form in Samus Returns.

But you do raise a good point when pointing out that there’s a lot of focus on showing what SR inherits from Super Metroid rather then its original game.
For as much as i’ve enjoyed Metroid over the years, I’ve really come to hate the fetishism over Super Metroid over the years. Both from stalwart fans of the series as well as from every advocate of the ‘Metroidvania'(barf) and every indie developer looking to make a name for itself by using that set-up yet again.

Metroid 2, on the other hand, always managed to provide something distinct from the other entries that came after Super. Something that is genuinely sad to see get lost.
