UKIP people are bloody irritating. I'm glad at least even Farage had the sense to pull him up on it.

I must admit though, that I am getting uncomfortable with the way many Left-wing people are talking about UKIP using similar language to how the BNP have been described. I think it's really important that groups like the BNP and the EDL are confronted and I don't think lumping the UKIP together with them helps identify the destructive racism of those groups.

I'd point out that UKIP has more than its fair share of people like Holocaust-deniers, and provides a centre of gravity around which various strands of the non-centre Right can congeal in the wake of the disintegration of the BNP. UKIP is quite consciously a sinkhole for ex-BNPers through to disaffected ex-Tory far-Righters. The leadership may scrabble around trying to defuse the little scandals that ensue when their feral membership say extreme things, thus portraying the party as a mainstream party with a few nutters on the fringes… but it's still a poujadist rabble which, with its reasonably broad church of middle-class / petit bourgeois malcontents, looks like a more viable spingboard of any potential mass British fascism than the BNP or EDL (loathsome and dangerous though they still are).
