This was one of the most enthralling essays on Doctor Who that I've read in a long, long, looong time, and it needs like a thousand comments. I'm going to go back and rewatch Gridlock right now.

I already adored "Gridlock," but you've added considerably to the ways I can look at it, and I love it — and this essay — even more now. Thanks!

Great essay … but the hymn is not "Abide With Me." It's "The Old Rugged Cross".

They sing 'The Old Rugged Cross' half way through. They sing 'Abide with Me' at the end.

You've really added more layers to my future viewings of an episode I already loved. Thanks again Jack.
