If this is from the essay, I look forward to seeing it complete. If it’s not from the essay, then the stuff that didn’t get left on the cutting room floor may actually be too exquisite for this silly Earth plane.

This is stuff that was cut from the essay for length reasons. The full essay – at least as I left it before Phil’s edits – can be read by my Patreon sponsors. Said discerning individuals will also get early access to more such cut sections before they get posted here. They will also get access to full-length versions of sections which, though still in the final essay, have been heavily edited. And all this for as little as $1 a month. Who says capitalism doesn’t work, huh?

Thrilling stuff so far. I haven’t had time to check out the full essay yet, but I’m looking forward to it. Any chance there will be any Shabcasts coming out of this?

I guess I always wonder where the sociopaths fit in to the equation. Because fundamentally, they seem to me to be the thing that breaks every system, some admittedly much faster than others. So, for example, the “wise gerontocracy” probably actually is the best system possible but can only ever last for one generation at best before being gamed to death. Pseudo-regulated capitalism seems to manage for longer, but it’s still only a matter of time before it similarly succumbs.

Arguing about the technicalities of different models and making psychohistorical models of populations to draw conclusions is all very well, but when what amounts to an entire alien chameleoid species (in the sense that they look like us and superficially act like us but definitely aren’t us) has already invaded, I’m not quite sure whether we’re having the right argument at all…

      All systems succumb eventually.

Let’s help this one along. I do rather wonder if it’s time to appropriate Roddy Piper’s tactics.

Even with that perspective in mind, we should strive to topple capitalism, seeing as feeds corporations, which are essentially psychopaths except also giants.

This is fascinating. One thing, though: I’m probably the only person here who doesn’t know this, but I’m afraid I’m going to need Scottish Marxism unpacked, please.

I’m guessing he means “truly Scottish” in the sense of “no trueScotsman“, but there’s a Bayesian non-zero chance I’m wrong.

Okay, yeah, that does make sense. Thanks!

Either that or he’s just referring to the obvious choice of Scotland as a landing site for anyone the Culture might send back to help us along towards a proper post-scarcity future.

Marxism is a complex concept that had factual evidence of work. The opposition must have strong evidence because the ideas of capitalism are an ideal theory. I think that the opposition lost all positions because all people liked the ideas of equality. The professions and professionalism https://gradesfixer.com/free-essay-examples/profession/ of the capitalists helped create the illusion of an ideal world. It seems to me that the greed of people destroyed this brilliant idea.
