    I understand that the Drahvins were originally intended to be male and only changed to females later on, with minimal rewriting, so this may be more of an unanticipated side-effect of such a change. It might be interesting to read any original scripts, if there are any, from before that happened.

    Really? Wow. I never knew that. That makes things very weird indeed. Still, the text still says what it says. And it was the Drahvins that were made into a race of females rather than any other antagonists from the period.

    Verity Lambert's choice, apparently.

    There was also, although presumably this was due to practicalities, Steven, where he reportedly ended up getting what had been mostly Barbara's role in the original.
