    Your last sentence would also sum up most of the original Apes sequels, so Kingdom is certainly respecting its lineage at least.

    I enjoyed the Maze Runner books…when I was a teenager. And before I knew about the author’s misconduct. I don’t think I’ll ever revisit them.

    You’re right that Kingdom almost gets there, but doesn’t quite make it. The world of Planet of the Apes is so rich that it’s easy to see how the themes and imagery could carry a story, but this one falls short in the “actually happening” department. It’s a solid movie..just not quite the Planet of the Apes movie fans were hoping for.
