Elizabeth Sandifer

Elizabeth Sandifer created Eruditorum Press. She’s not really sure why she did that, and she apologizes for the inconvenience. She currently writes Last War in Albion, a history of the magical war between Alan Moore and Grant Morrison. She used to write TARDIS Eruditorum, a history of Britain told through the lens of a ropey sci-fi series. She also wrote Neoreaction a Basilisk, writes comics these days, and has ADHD so will probably just randomly write some other shit sooner or later.Support Elizabeth on Patreon.

I’m getting the feeling this column is building toward some dread resolution. The next great gaming collapse which every critic sees coming, maybe. Or something even more unspeakable….motion controls.

I find it very interesting that they use the phrase “Not Your Shield”. Interesting in that the phrase implies that the speaker is the shield of someone else rather than not being a shield at all. Of course, this all ties back to the fundamental concept of ownership of space within the GG community in that the GG community owns the shield. In turn this connects to the character of Vivian James, a shield in her own fictional nature who also acts as the model for other shields of her brand. One has to wonder why someone would want to be a shield who, as Phil mentioned, deliberately chooses to stand still and never change on their own accord. What sort of person would attempt to reject the natural order of the world for the sake of their own egotism? And then I remember that Vox Day thinks death is a form of evil and suddenly the world of the GG makes perfect sense.

I almost made this a shaggy dog entry that ended on a “not your shield” joke.

“The result is a game that’s ever so slightly disappointing”
